Tips for Making Your Perfume Last Longer – Part One
Have you ever sprayed your perfume only to find that the scent seems to disappear without a trace within an hour?
Sometimes, this is a sign of a poorly-made perfume. But at others, it may be how you’re wearing it that is part of the problem.
What many don’t realise is that there are a few tricks that you can use to make your perfume last longer.
Here are a few that you can start using today.
Moisturise Before Applying
It’s always a good idea to apply moisturiser simply for the skin benefits that it provides.
However, such creams also prove effective as a way to bond perfume to your skin and make it last longer.
Use an unscented moisturiser and apply the perfume after applying the cream. You should find that the perfume absorbs into the cream before it absorbs into your skin, which results in a longer-lasting fragrance.
Wash Before Applying
Washing yourself with warm water opens up your pores, which makes your skin more receptive to your perfume.
Don’t wait too long after taking a shower to apply your fragrance.
Wash, dry yourself well so that no moisture catches the perfume, and then apply. It’s very important that you dry yourself properly as water can catch the perfume and lead it away from the areas that you apply it on.
Reapply During the Day
No matter what you do, the scent from a perfume will fade during the day. This is especially the case if you’re exerting yourself, as sweat can carry the fragrance away.
A simple fix is to keep a small bottle of perfume with you so that you can reapply it during the course of the day. Don’t take chances here though. Ask somebody if your fragrance has started to fade before you apply. Otherwise, you could end up over-applying and leaving yourself with too bold a smell.
Use the Pulse Points
Many of us spray our perfumes all over instead of focusing on the areas that sustain the scent the longest.
These are the pulse points and it’s important that you know where you are. The goal is to apply your perfume to these points so that it lasts as long as possible.
Pulse points include:
- Your wrists
- Behind your ears
- The back folds of your knees
- Your elbow folds
- Between the clavicles on your neck
Of course, you can apply the fragrance elsewhere too. However, hitting these points will keep the scent lasting for longer, even as it fades from other areas of the body.
Don’t Rub
We all do this one.
You spray or apply the perfume. Then, you rub it into the skin. Or, you pour it into your hands, rub them together, and apply.
Either way, you’re diluting the perfume before you apply it.
Allow it to dry naturally on the skin so that you maintain the top note and keep the fragrance lasting for longer.
